Poetry

I may not be the next Silverstein, Frost, or Poe, but sometimes I feel like giving rhymes a go.

Nights
I'd rather get the call that missed the mark than take the fall
I run from real rejection cause I'm a coward after all
and Irish violins would try to spark the sky from gray
but music's just reminding that you done and gone away
a dreamworld preservation where we danced in new york snow
I never even had you, so I can't ask "Where'd you go?"

Loki
Loki, Loki, how you lie, riding on your horse so high
You break good people, silver tongue, Living fiction just for fun
Manipulation: your finest game, You do it well in quest for fame
Yet vanity and charm can't shield the strength of opened eyes
Seeing now that deceptive self was always just your size
Parade about, oh wild king, with your crown of cigarettes
But take one moment, hear me out, I'll tell you what comes next
You fade away from history, your name crossed from the books
There's naught that we'll remember soon, not works, not voice, not looks
We marked you as your brother, true, the sigma of the six
And I won't lie, it bled my heart, to hear of all your tricks
But it'd be foolishly inept to think that only you
Could talk away the outside world and make lies into true
I'll tell myself it doesn't hurt and I don't miss you all the time
And soon enough the last of you will be captured in this rhyme
I'll only remember all the years when brothers was how we stood
And you can fib of who I am and parade yourself as good
It's not so different, how we cope, the ways in which we try
Except one is healing from a stab, the other's just a lie
So go on, O King, walk your streets, continue with your roam
I hope I'm wrong about your ending, you left defeated and alone.

Redemption
On New Years Eve
Appeared to me
A figure cloaked in red,
Aside from I
and falling snow
the city'd gone to bed

My drunken fingers
brandished out
a blad of fearful hate,
I lumbered forth
left foot got snagged
and betrayed by my gait

The agony
of piercing steel
felt fitting in my chest,
black envy blood
pooled upward to
soak peacoat and the rest

The crimson figure
came and gently
clasped our hands as two,
the hood fell back
and ethereal glow
I saw that it was you

With wings that
spanned the ocean
you blanketed me tight,
cause now I felt
a labored breath
death was there this night

I saw your
knowing smile
and felt the calm just aft a storm,
then body did
give to and ashed
away became my form

A thousand days
a simple blink
my soul had never died,
compassion and
a singing friend
were always by my side

When I awake
a whole man new
a tavern filled my sight,
I saw that you
were clad in blue
to lead this dance tonight.

Suits
Sometimes it hurts in such a way
that burns away the skin
We lose our sense of love and good
to set free sex and sin

To relish the regret we'd feel
When setting day to night
the sickening twinge of pain and ill
when putting out my light

A corporate reign of cash and booze
I'd always swore to fight
My life as man in suits and hurt
is finally come to life.

Moving On
This home may turn to ash and gray
my oceans lose their heart
the borders singed and peel away
the true love blown apart

But one last breath of hope could sprout a world of life and green
I'd rain my eyes and crush my back, blow soul to smithereens

So say a prayer
let loose a smile
cause soon it'd start to loom
it's width a nearly
half a mile
my grand a great balloon

A work be made to save the planet
the last of all that's grand
I'm not quite sure where it'll port
just come and take my hand

Into a sky
so high and true
above the clouds we roam
into a place
that's made of blue
a new land to call home.
